Genealogical Research

This form allows to submit an enquiry to the National Archives of Estonia regarding family events like birth, death, marriage etc. (mainly about data until 1940). The archives hold church registers, parish member lists and soul revision lists, as well as many personal documents. When making an enquiry, it should be marked where did these persons live, which congregation did they belong to etc. NB! The archives cannot undertake any comprehensive research.

To collect the data concerning the period of Soviet Union, the information search should start from local government's vital statistics office. Query about the inhabitants of Tallinn should be done in Tallinn City Archives. It is possible to do family research on your own on the Internet using the Saaga portal and the virtual reading room VAU.

NB! If you need the data to apply for Estonian citizenship, please use enquiry form Citizenship

The fee of the query done for personal research reasons is 15 euros.
