Content DescriptionThis spring Estonia deployed the largest contingent of military personnel, 13,000 soldiers and sailors, since regaining independence. The occasion was operation ‘Siil’. Siil translates into hedgehog, an animal with a coat of thorns. The operation’s motto was appropriate – “Each thorn counts”. The two week-long training was all inclusive from mobilization to firing live ordinance. Units of some of Estonia’s allies participated. President Toomas Hendrik Ilves checked out the latest in military technology. 3 photos – shoulder patch, soldiers and tank, president and military equip.
