Content DescriptionKorp! Amicitia 91! Every November, like clockwork, members of korp! Amicitia Toronto Chapter gather at Tartu College to celebrate the birth of their organization, which came into being on November 21, 1924 in the beautiful city of Tartu in their beloved homeland. This year was no different! On Saturday, November 7th, the main hall at Tartu College filled to capacity as lilac-cap bearers (full members) and black-cap bearers (pledges) poured in from far and near: from Tartu Hanna Laius, from Australia Sirje Simm, from Michigan Kadri Wichman, from Colorado Maiki Teene Darnell, from Montreal Katrina Dobson, from Ottawa Anneliis Põldre and from Kingston Teija Jõgi. In a close tie as to who had driven furthest to party with their sister-amicad in Toronto were the London “amicad” Sophie Skaith, Merike Kütt, Kassandra Hanslep, Kairi Vaikla and Larissa Vompa- 190 kilometers. But the prize for the most innovative means of transport went to the contingent of six amicad from Hamilton, who arrived at Tartu College in style- in a limousine, champagne and all, organized for the occasion by Lia Hess. On November 7th the Amicitia women were clearly in a celebratory mood. Long gone are the days when annual anniversary gatherings were more commemorative in nature than celebratory. But since the restoration of Amicitia's Tartu Chapter and the restoration of Estonia's independence, the anniversary gatherings have become more joyous and exuberant with every passing year. Practice makes perfect and the Toronto amicad are clearly in training for the megacelebrations ahead: Eesti 100 in 2018 and Amicitia in 2024.
