Content DescriptionThe end to a historical event - a small but significant graveside gathering. Following the funeral ceremony and the lowering of the ashes by their son, dr. Ants Toi, the inspiring conductor-composer Roman Toi and his wife Vaiki were paid last respects by members of the new generation. Both the deceased were members of organizations devoted to the advancement of Estonian culture and surviving spirit. Roman Toi was a longtime leading figure in the university fraternity Vironia, and one of their dynamic leaders in pre-occupation Eesti. Vaiki Toi belonged to the sorority Filiae Patriae, the oldest of the formal Estonian university sororities based in Tartu and later active in exile. Younger members in Eesti represented these historical organizations at the recent funeral held at the famed Metsakalmistu (Forest Cemetery) in Tallinn Sept 30.
