Content DescriptionAs  is done abroad, Estonians in their homeland commemorate the June 14, 1941 Soviet mass deportations in various ways. Most of the Estonia’s military officers were forcible taken from their camp at Värska, where they had been confined by the occupying Soviets. The majority of those who were deported to Soviet Russia did not survive, initially due to the brutal conditions in forced labour camps and then on the battlefront. A few memorials have been erected in their memory. Retired Border Guard Ltn. Col. Hindrek Piiber, far right in uniform, organizes a commemoration for these perished officers every year. 14.
