The new Archival Information System (AIS) was launched on 5 April
The National Archives of Estonia released a new version of the Archival Information System on the 5th of April.
The Archival Information System AIS, which has been serving researchers since 2004, has been constantly improved throughout its history. During the last years, a more extensive modernization had to be undertaken in order to keep up with fast developing new technologies. The new AIS will provide faster and smoother access to collections, more convenient searches, new options for browsing and sorting search results, and a new modern appearance.
The AIS covers more than 11 million records with their titles. Most of the records originate from the collections of the National Archives, but AIS enables also to make searches throughout the records of some other memory institutions joined the AIS: Narva City Archives, Tallinn City Archives, Estonian History Museum, Museum of Estonian Architecture, Archives of the Consistory of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Art Museum of Estonia, Archives of the National Heritage Board, and the Estonian Canadian Museum and Archives.
The AIS can be used both in Estonian and in English, thus the titles of the records have been written mostly in Estonian (or in Russian, in German, etc.). More information about the collections and the English-version of the search gate is accessible here: https://ais.ra.ee/en.
We kindly ask you to report any errors you come across while making the searches.
Have many smooth searches and great results!
