Eelmisel nädalal näidati Vancouveri Meie Kodus Kuldse Klubi seenioridele (neid oli koos 30 ringis) Kaisa Pitsi filmi “Toidutoojad”. Film valmis eelmisel aastal seoses Tartu College’is praegu veel üleval oleva näitusega “Toit – eestluse varaait. Eestlaste toiduärid ja -tööstused Torontos”. Tore oleks kuulda, kas ja kuskohalt algaastatel Vancouveris eesti toitu sai osta.Vancouver ; British Columbia01/2015

The classroom of the current first year Estonian course at the University of Toronto and Ryerson, offered for the first time in three years, is overflowing! What has drawn all these students to learn this beautiful but complicated language ?! Love (or family), is the top reason: many have spouses, kids, parents and kids around them who speak Estonian, and want to know what is being said around (about?!) them! Others are pure Estophiles, loving the language and all things Estonian! Some have been singing in Estonian for years and now want to understand what they have been singing! And some are language majors that felt that a language with 14 declinations would be fun to learn! Teacher Marju Toomsalu (left, front) is managing to bring everyone along with fast-paced learning while keeping the classes fun and dynamic, with poetry, anecdotes and song.(Not all students are on the photo.)Toronto

It was the first time that Estonians in Toronto (perhaps all of Canada) have enjoyed an evening of typical non-Estonian style humorous monologues (Liia Kajak through song). While it was obvious why veteran comedian Andy Valvur’s success has lasted for a few decades, Liia Kajak and Paul Lillakas, still relatively new-comers to this art form, tickled the audience’s funny bone with substantial force. The ‘Estonian theme’ was handled by all with fresh insight and expected irreverence. Laughter sustained itself from start to final bow.Toronto24/01/2015
